Ich, Ich, Ich! – Staatstheater Hannover, Hanover

About this event

A new Hannover staging of Raquel García-Tomás’s comic opera Ich, ich, ich! (Je suis narcissiste), with a libretto by Helena Tornero. Performed in German with German surtitles, this production is described as the second German staging of the work, following Giessen’s 2024 production. Ruben Michael directs, with set and costumes by Lydia Peters, musical direction by Masaru Kumakura, and German translation and dramaturgy by Arno Lücker. The Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover supplies the orchestral forces. Structured around scenic flashbacks to a decisive day, the staging moves between a street, hotel, vernissage, funeral, and meditation group to probe pathological self‑love, materialism, pseudo‑authenticity, online self‑marketing, and master–slave imbalances. The production characterizes the score’s language as comic and citation‑rich.
