About this event

KUG’s 2026/27 production of HPSCHD reimagines John Cage and Lejaren Hiller’s multimedia classic as a spatial, audiovisual performance. Seven harpsichords and 53 tape tracks are brought together and made visible within a walk-in environment. Led by artist and researcher Anke Eckardt, with Michael Hell (Institute for Early Music and Performance Practice) and Marko Ciciliani (Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics, IEM), the project explores how sound and image co-exist and interact in space. Student work focuses on light design, complemented by sound, video, analogue and kinetic materials, architecture, text, and new media. The concept critically revisits the techno-optimism of the historical original and asks what its sensory overload signifies in 2026.
