About this event

Roots of Loving Us is a world-premiere, evening-length dance theater work by CONTRA-TIEMPO that emerges from a multi-year community engagement and collaborative research process led by Ana Maria Alvarez (CONTRA-TIEMPO) and Holly Johnston (Responsive Body). Using practice-based research, the project weaves dance movement, body-based healing, art making, and social impact. Drawing on Afro-Latine movement practice and the embodied knowledge of the ensemble, the work combines contemporary dance, storytelling, imagery, music, and somatic practices. The production frames family as an evolving structure rather than a fixed model, informed by conversations with single-parent households, queer parents, foster families, adoptees, and bioadaptive families.
