About this event

The Naghash Ensemble is a contemporary chamber group from Yerevan founded by Armenian‑American composer and pianist John Hodian to bring his long‑running project Songs of Exile to the stage. For this La Jolla engagement, the touring lineup features three female voices (two sopranos and an alto) with duduk, oud, dhol, and piano. Hodian’s music fuses Armenian sacred and folk traditions with new classical writing and post‑minimalist pulse, keeping traditional instruments in dialogue with the concert piano and vocal lines. Presented by La Jolla Music Society as part of the Global Roots Series at The Conrad, the concert is offered in a pure concert format and is preceded by a 2:00 PM prelude talk in The JAI.
