Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing presents the most famous oratorio by George Frideric Handel, Messiah HWV 56, as part of its 2026/2027 season. Premiered in Dublin in 1742, this monument of the English Baroque repertoire is entrusted here to Le Concert d’Astrée, the choir and orchestra founded in Lille in 2000 by harpsichordist and conductor Emmanuelle Haïm, a leading figure on the international Baroque scene. The cast brings together four first-rate vocal soloists around the conductor: British soprano Lucy Crowe, Italian countertenor Carlo Vistoli, South African tenor Lunga Eric Hallam, and bass-baritone Ashley Riches. Presented at Théâtre Municipal Raymond Devos, the concert offers the Tourcoing audience the opportunity to hear the work on period instruments under a conductor in demand on major opera and concert stages across Europe and the United States. A pre-concert talk is offered at 6 pm to provide context.
