About this event

House choreographer Kristina Paulin creates her first full-evening work for the Badisches Staatsballett with Cinderella. While staying true to the classic fairy tale—known from Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm—she retells it from a sensitive, freshly reimagined perspective: Cinderella and the Prince recognize one another as kindred outsiders. She endures hard labor and abuse from her stepmother and stepsisters and feels like a stranger in her own home; he is constrained by palace rules and expectations that push him ever further away from himself. Neither truly feels at home—making their encounter not only magical, but above all liberating. This lavishly designed family ballet features sets by Sebastian Hannak and costumes by Bregje van Balen, with music by the Badische Staatskapelle performed live.
