This contemporary dance diptych by the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Rhin brings together two major voices, Sharon Eyal and Léo Lérus, whose artistic kinship dates back to their Batsheva Dance Company days. In Ici, Lérus draws on Guadeloupean choreographic and musical traditions from the slavery era, reframing them with contemporary sensitivity in a sequence of intimate solos and ensemble tableaux. Denis Guivarc’h’s sound composition—built from original recordings of Hurricanes Ernesto (2024) and Maria (2017)—weaves a sonic landscape linking cultural memory and the forces of nature. The Look (2019) by Sharon Eyal fuses technical precision with raw expressivity, echoing Gandhi’s mantra “Nobody can hurt me without my permission” while probing bodily and communal resilience. The dark silhouettes of the dancers merge into a single organism that breathes, unfurls, and lives to Ori Lichtik’s hypnotic score, intensified by Alon Cohen’s lighting and Rebecca Hytting’s costumes.
