Stéphane Denève leads the New World Symphony Fellows in a season-opening program that honors the late Michael Tilson Thomas, NWS co-founder and longtime artistic leader, while bringing Beethoven's monumental Ninth Symphony — and its message of unity through Schiller's "Ode to Joy" — to the New World Center. The concert pairs Tilson Thomas's intimate Notturno (a flute showcase featuring Principal Flute Demarre McGill) with Mahler's introspective Adagietto from Symphony No. 5 before culminating in Beethoven's Choral Symphony, performed with the Master Chorale of South Florida under chorus master Brett Karlin and four vocal soloists. The October 10 performance is also offered simultaneously as a free outdoor WALLCAST® concert at SoundScape Park, allowing the community to experience the program at no cost on a large outdoor screen.
