About this event
This program is built around three towering figures of late-20th-century music. Steve Reich's Three Movements for Orchestra (1986) expands the rhythmic, process-driven language of his earlier works into a fully scored orchestral canvas. Igor Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements (1945) channels the wartime energy of its composition period into sharply etched, propulsive orchestration. The concert closes with Philip Glass's Violin Concerto No. 1 (1987), a propulsive, swirling work built on repeating patterns, lyric lines and a steady forward momentum.
