Ravel's Boléro – New World Center, Miami Beach

The program opens the New World Symphony's 2026–27 season with a curated journey through orchestral music tied to Spanish-speaking and French musical traditions. Led by Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, it begins with Gabriela Ortiz's Kauyumari, inspired by the Wixárika (Huichol) pilgrimage in Mexico's Sierra Madre. Arturo Márquez's Fandango, a mariachi-rooted violin concerto, is performed by Anne Akiko Meyers. Claude Debussy's Images for orchestra: Ibéria evokes impressions of Spain through luminous orchestral color. The concert closes with Maurice Ravel's Boléro, building inexorably over an insistent ostinato. The program features Denève and Meyers with the New World Symphony Fellows at the New World Center.
