About this event

Composer John Cage – an "inventive genius," according to his teacher Arnold Schoenberg – is at the center of this concert, in which the sound of the piano undergoes several stages of metamorphosis, all strictly acoustic. In the 1940s Cage approached the instrument – which had become a symbol of cultivated music over the previous two centuries – in a new way and invented the prepared piano, for which he would write his opus magnum, the Sonatas and Interludes. A programme offering lightness, curiosity and wonder, and an invitation to welcome unexpected sounds of many colours. (A.T.)
