Lale and Lilo now live in Germany, but why has the mood at home become so tense? What is going on with their mother? And why are birds tapping at the window again? While Lilo and Dad hurl words at each other over dinner, Lale tries hard to understand. Yet the language of her family makes no sense in her head—and things begin to disappear from her life. At first it’s just furniture; soon she can no longer rely on her own voice. Lale and Lilo must find answers. Together they set off and take flight. High above Turkey, memories and words return—just in time for the siblings to fight for them. With poetic, shimmering imagery in German and Turkish, author Yade Yasemin Önder leads the audience on a search for identity and the power of words.
