1. Nachtklänge – Portrait Caio De Azevedo – Badische State Theater Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe

About this event

The music of Caio de Azevedo is distinguished by its richness of ideas and color, its complex structure, its transparency and precision, and an immediate poetic radiance in its scores. These qualities, together with a considerable technical command, convinced the Wolfgang Rihm jury to award the Brazilian-born composer (b. 1993) — a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München — the stipend endowed by the Hoepfner Stiftung. Works by de Azevedo have already been performed across Europe by ensembles such as the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, the International Contemporary Ensemble and Ensemble Recherche. As part of the concert, the Badische Staatskapelle will give the world premiere of a new composition by de Azevedo. He also acts as curator of the surrounding NachtKlänge programme, which includes music that has influenced his own creative work.
