About this event

Istanbul is a musical theatre evening by Selen Kara, Torsten Kindermann and Akın Emanuel Şipal that tells the story of Essen native Klaus Gruber and his family through a reversed lens: What if the economic miracle of the 1950s had taken place in Turkey and German families had left as guest workers? Kara directs and adapts; Kindermann provides musical direction, concept and adaptation; Şipal supplies the text and translations of the song lyrics. Set design is by Thomas Rupert, costumes by Emir Medić, dramaturgy/adaptation by Katharina Roesch. Five actors and four onstage musicians narrate and sing the piece, interwoven with 15 songs by Turkish pop icon Sezen Aksu.
