Ahead of the premiere of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s rarely performed opera The Miracle of Heliane, the Aalto-Theater hosts a conversation about the work, the staging, and its musical interpretation. Director Elisabeth Stöppler offers insights into her approach to this extraordinary opera, while Andrea Sanguineti highlights the musical features of Korngold’s opulent score. Special guest Alain Perroux, General Director of the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, joins the panel; the opera was presented at his renowned Alsatian house last season. Musicologist Arne Stollberg, Professor of Historical Musicology at Humboldt University Berlin, head of the Korngold Complete Works Edition, and editor of the volume “Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Wunderkind of Modernity or Last Romantic?” provides the scholarly perspective. The discussion is framed by live musical excerpts from Korngold’s works.
