On 2 November 2026, the Essen Student Orchestra (ESO) celebrates its 30th stage anniversary with a festive concert titled “30 Years of ESO – A Musical Journey” in the Alfried Krupp Hall at the Philharmonie Essen. Founded in 1996 by medical students at the University of Duisburg-Essen, the ensemble now unites around 60 amateur musicians from many fields and is part of the university’s family of ensembles. Since 2024, Moritz Dindorf has served as music director and conducts this jubilee concert. The programme traces a musical arc from Spain to nocturnal New York and on to Paris: Albéniz’s Suite española, Op. 47, Kurt Weill’s Symphonic Nocturne from Lady in the Dark, and Gershwin’s An American in Paris. The event is presented by Essener Studentenorchester e.V. and hosted as a guest event within the Philharmonie Essen’s programme.
