Leah Luna Winzely's play Der Wassermann tells the story of Lasse, who is convinced that his father is a Wassermann (water-man, water spirit). He has read on the internet that water spirits are born in February and urgently need their freedom — which is why his water-father only rarely shows up and disappears again as soon as someone else enters the room. No one believes Lasse: not his mother, his teacher, or his friends. This makes him angry. Only Ju seems truly to understand what it feels like when a parent is missing. From now on, Lasse no longer has to swim against the current alone. The piece moves dynamically between dialogue, choral passages, and poetic passages, making form itself an inventive co-player. The boundaries between reality and childhood fantasy blur, and the play playfully explores the feeling between togetherness and loneliness.
