This guest concert by the MDR-Sinfonieorchester and MDR-Rundfunkchor at Konzerthaus Dortmund is the centerpiece of the venue’s Zeitinsel focus on Lera Auerbach in the 2026/27 season. Short, thematically linked works by Veljo Tormis, Alexander Mosolov, and Charles Ives lead to the world premiere of the revised final version of Lera Auerbach’s Symphony No. 4 “ARCTICA,” a cycle exploring the sonic landscape of the Arctic. Auerbach conducts. Greenlander Hans-Henrik Suersaq Poulsen, appearing as traditional voice and frame-drum soloist, brings the indigenous drum song and storytelling tradition of Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) directly into the symphonic fabric. Pianist Awadagin Pratt and theremin soloist Thorwald Jorgensen complete the soloist team, with the theremin evoking an elemental, otherworldly sound world. A pre-concert introduction takes place at 18:30 and an express introduction at 19:10.
