About this event

Orchesterklassenfahrt ("Orchestra Class Trip") is a family concert produced by the MDR-Sinfonieorchester as part of its 2026/2027 Familienkonzerte series, conceived for school classes, after-school groups, and families. The premise invites the audience on an imaginary class trip with the orchestra, exploring how the different sections and personalities within a symphony orchestra behave when no conductor or teacher is in charge—Which instruments push to the front, which stay quietly in the background, and which take command. The format combines orchestral music-making with audience participation: children and adults are encouraged to try conducting, experiment with instruments, and sing along. The program draws on well-known works by Mozart, Beethoven, Tschaikowski, Grieg and other composers, designed to introduce young listeners to the sound world of a professional symphony orchestra in an accessible, interactive setting.
