About this event

This Nachtgesang (night song) is devoted to musical settings of prayers that engage with death and farewell. Angels accompanying the deceased into paradise, the mother's grief at her crucified son, trust in the Father in heaven, and the plea for eternal rest are the themes of this evening's "silent prayers." The programme features works by the Ukrainian-Estonian composer Galina Grigorjeva, the Canadian Eleanor Daley, the Norwegian Knut Nystedt and the Latvian Ēriks Ešenvalds, each shaping these topoi in highly individual ways. The concert is part of the MDR Nachtgesang series, in which the MDR Rundfunkchor invites audiences to the Peterskirche Leipzig three times per season for late-night vocal music of the highest calibre.
