About this event
The evening opens the Christmas season and combines beloved melodies from Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet Swan Lake with Mendelssohn’s cantata "Vom Himmel hoch". The wonderful overture to Ferdinand Hiller’s opera "Ein Traum in der Christnacht" opens a festive soundscape enriched with popular Russian and German Christmas carols. The latter provide the bridge to Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, a rarely heard masterpiece for the Christmas season in Germany.
