The MDR Symphony Orchestra appears at chor.com 2026 with a Scandinavian-themed programme in Leipzig’s St. Thomas Church. At its heart is Matthew Peterson’s Högalidsmässan (Högalid Mass), premiered in 2023 at Högalidskyrkan, Stockholm and awarded the 2024 Christ Johnson Prize. Lasting around 45 minutes, the work for mixed choir, two trumpets, two trombones, percussion, organ and string orchestra sets the Ordinary of the Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and a final Benedicamus) to Swedish texts by Gunilla Lindén. It is performed together with the Swedish chamber choir Gustaf Sjökvist’s Kammarkör, conducted by its artistic director since 2018, Florian Benfer. The concert forms a highlight of the chor.com festival concerts at St. Thomas and reflects the 2026 motto “Building Bridges,” connecting vocal and instrumental forces and Scandinavian with central German musical traditions.
