The Monastery Series Lunchtime Concert: Cello Ensemble is part of Manchester Camerata's popular Lunchtime Concert series, held at the orchestra's home, The Monastery in Gorton, Manchester. Proudly supported by Classic FM, the series offers intimate, inclusive one-hour performances designed as a restorative midweek break, bringing world-class chamber music into a historic, atmospheric setting. This programme is curated by Hannah Roberts, Manchester Camerata's Principal Cellist, and showcases the orchestra's cello section performing as a self-contained ensemble across centuries and styles. It opens with Grieg's Holberg Suite in Gwyn Seymour's arrangement, continues with Nick Martin's Lamentoso, and Fauré's Nocturne No. 4 arranged by Christian Elliott. A festive thread runs through the date, leading into contrasting finales: the third movement of Elgar's Cello Concerto and Eric Clapton's Layla, both arranged by Simon Parkin.
