La Preghiera Nell'opera Lirica – Chiesa di Sant’Agostino, Modena

About this event

“The Prayer in Opera” is a concert within the Modena Belcanto Festival (third edition, dedicated to “Metamorphoses of Bel Canto: The Italian voice from Baroque origins to the present”). The evening features the historic Rossini Choral Society of Modena, founded in 1887 and named after Gioachino Rossini. Over its 139-year history the choir has taken part in national and international competitions (including Llangollen and Cork); originally male, it became mixed in 1989 and a cultural association in 1997. The program offers a thematic journey devoted to prayer in opera—meditation, hope, and dramatic intensity—through famous vocal and choral pages by Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, and Mascagni. Artistic and musical direction by Luca Saltini (conductor and chorus master), with Lucio Carpani at the piano; solo voices are soprano Annalisa Ferrarini and bass Massimiliano Catellani. The Gioachino Rossini Choir performs together with the Coro Città di Mirandola. Free admission; venue: Church of Sant’Agostino, Modena.
