This Vienna engagement is presented by the Theater an der Wien as a concert performance of Handel’s Radamisto. Handel’s first opera for the newly founded Royal Academy of Music in London (1719) is heard without sets or staging, placing the focus on the music and the singers. The program highlights its mix of tragic love, startling plot turns and virtuoso arias that captivated London in 1720. Handel later revised the score multiple times for star singers such as Senesino, Faustina Bordoni and Francesca Cuzzoni, creating four closely related versions rich with brilliant arias. Music Director Benjamin Bayl and the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra present their selection from these versions at Theater an der Wien. Sung in Italian with German surtitles, the concert is preceded by a 30‑minute introduction.
