About this event
Emily – No Prisoner Be is a semi-staged theatrical song cycle in 24 parts, composed by Pulitzer Prize–winner Kevin Puts and directed by Andrew Staples, who also shaped lighting and sound design. The project grew from Puts and Joyce DiDonato’s collaboration around The Hours, while drawing on the trio’s Grammy-winning Contact and reaching toward Schubertian textures, fiddle-and-pluck idioms, and rock energy. Scored for one voice (mezzo-soprano) and a singing string trio (two violins/viola, double bass) on a single shared stage, it unfolds without orchestra and without intermission.
