The Lunch concert is a long-running weekly recital series hosted by the Berliner Philharmoniker in the foyer of the Philharmonie Berlin’s main auditorium. Every Wednesday at 13:00 from September to June, audiences can drop in for a free, informal performance of around 40–50 minutes (about one hour including arrival and catering). There is no advance booking; admission is on a first-come basis up to foyer capacity via a chip handed out at the entrance. The series embraces wide stylistic variety—chamber music, solo piano, or even percussion duo—spanning “everything from Tchaikovsky to tango.” Performers are drawn from the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Karajan Academy, guests from Berlin’s major orchestras, and talented young students from the city’s conservatories. Catering is available from 12:00 with vegetarian options; outside food and drinks are not permitted. A small number of seats is reserved for visitors with a valid disabled pass; otherwise there is no reserved seating.
