About this event

QUEENEY TODD: The Demon Bottom of Fleet Street is Heartbeat Opera’s 11th Annual Drag Opera Extravaganza, launching the 2026–27 season at Judson Memorial Church. Billed as a delirious, raunchy revenge fantasy and a high-glam fusion of drag, opera, and theatre, it promises a whirlwind of camp, couture, and carnage. The production marks the Heartbeat Opera directing debut of ballroom legend Kemar Jewel (creator, director, choreographer), known for drag- and ballroom-infused stage works. The musical team is led by co-creator/music director Jacob Ashworth and co-creator/arranger Dan Schlosberg, who re-score a mash-up of opera and musical theatre favorites for a small ensemble in a tight 90-minute format. Building on the company’s signature Drag Opera Extravaganzas, QUEENEY TODD reimagines Sweeney Todd through a queer, debaucherous lens where opera’s greatest divas, villains, and f*ckboys collide. Design details will be announced closer to the run.
