Steffen Piontek's production of the fairy tale Opera Hänsel and Gretel has been an integral part of the Christmas programme of many Chemnitz families since 1991. Again in this Season, you can tremble with Hansel and Gretel when, upon returning from a hard day's work, the mother finds only an empty pot instead of supper and two dancing children instead of the work being done. You will hope with Hansel and Gretel that they will find their way out of the spooky forest with will-o'-the-wisps and sparkling-eyed owls. Once again, you can look forward to the angel pyramid that guards the children's sleep, the fragrant gingerbread house and the burnt witch's bottom. The famous siblings have now passed their musical witch adventure more than 250 times. Just in time for the 30th "stage anniversary", a recording of the Chemnitz production was released on DVD in December 2021. This DVD is available in our web shop .
