Presented by Palazzetto Bru Zane as part of its 2026–2027 season, this recital opens a seven-concert Venice festival devoted to Clémence de Grandval (1828–1907). Five soloists—soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and baritone—perform with piano in a curated sequence of arias and ensembles by Grandval and her French contemporaries of the later nineteenth century: Massenet, Bizet, Hüe, Gounod and Joncières. The programme explores how, even as chamber music flourished, opera remained France’s central musical language—at once the most popular genre and the most prestigious path to recognition. Embracing the era’s variety—from competition cantatas to grand opera, salon pieces and opéra-comique—the concert surveys the richness and continual renewal of French vocal writing. The evening takes place at the historic Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, with ticketing via Vivaticket. A cocktail for the audience follows the recital.
