About this event
Tom at the Farm, a 2010 play by Franco‑Canadian playwright Michel Marc Bouchard, has become a modern classic of queer drama. The Staatstheater Meiningen production presents it as an intense chamber piece that probes homophobia, repression, sexuality, and violence. The intimate Kammerspiele setting underscores the work’s psychological density. Direction is by actor‑director Simon Werdelis, making his directing debut in Meiningen; he previously drew notice with his portrayal of Wedekind’s scandal figure Lulu at Staatsschauspiel Dresden. The German translation is by Frank Heibert. The concept is completed by set and costume design by Max Schwidlinski and musical underscoring by Johannes Mittl. Dramaturgy is by Deborah Ziegler. Before the premiere, the theatre offers a public “Kostprobe” (open rehearsal) giving audiences a close look at the rehearsal process and the director’s team at work.
