About this event

Under the theme “Es werde Klang” (“Let there be sound”), the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin traces a creation arc across three landmark works. Rebel’s Les Éléments (1737) evokes the primordial whirling of matter in striking Baroque colors; Thomas Adès’s In Seven Days (2008) compresses the seven days of creation into a 30‑minute piano concerto; and John Adams’s Harmonium (1980–81) for large chorus and orchestra spins a vast sound web from a single tone, setting poems by John Donne and Emily Dickinson. Vladimir Jurowski conducts, Kirill Gerstein is soloist in the Adès, and the Rundfunkchor Berlin joins under chorus master Julia Selina Blank for Adams’s choral finale. The concert is a guest appearance by the RSB at the Philharmonie Berlin’s Großer Saal. Cover artwork for the program is by the German painter Daniel Richter.
