Presented as a guest event by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin in the Main Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, this concert is framed by the theme “Longing for Beauty.” The program opens with Samy Moussa’s Adgilis Deda (Hymn for Orchestra), continues with Kaija Saariaho’s three-movement harp concerto Trans (2015) featuring soloist Xavier de Maistre, and closes with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 54 (1939)—a searching, ultimately sardonic work that ends in a clownish grimace.
