About this event
A "Germany evening": songs and texts by Wolf Biermann are interwoven with staged scenes by Martin Heckmanns. Biographical episodes and musical material form a portrait of Biermann and, at the same time, a contemporary historical panorama of the FRG and the GDR. The work addresses the murder of his father in Auschwitz, childhood, his move to the GDR in 1953, clashes with state authorities, and his 1976 expatriation. Directed by Frank Behnke with musical direction by Lukas Umlauft and sets by Ralph Zeger, the staging combines live music and spoken theatre to examine past and present "dragons" (political adversaries) and the ongoing relevance of Biermann’s voice.
