A symphonic-choral concert of Antonín Dvořák’s Requiem, Op. 89, led by Philippe Herreweghe with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Collegium Vocale Gent. The first performance takes place at the Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp on Thursday 12 November 2026 at 20:00, with a free Dutch-language introduction at 19:15; the same forces appear the next evening at Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent. As Opera Ballet Vlaanderen frames it, November’s remembrance is a fitting time for this moving score: a subtle chromatic leitmotif evokes the nearness of death, yet the work avoids superficial gestures and tragic gloom, radiating a courageous, consoling sorrow. Often overlooked among the great requiems, Dvořák’s largest choral work is presented here within the ‘Vocal Splendour’ subscription series in collaboration with Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
