About this event
The Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker is the orchestra’s training institution for outstanding young musicians, founded in 1972 at the initiative of Herbert von Karajan to provide scholarships and mentoring by members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. The foundation supporting the Academy, endowed since 2002 with the assets of Claudio Abbado’s music foundation, awards the Claudio Abbado Composition Prize at irregular intervals. This edition also features a live on-stage painting by visual artist Norbert Bisky, created in direct response to the music. The programme combines Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night (string orchestra version) and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 with a world premiere: a new commissioned work by the 2026 laureate.
