Quatuor Ébène has set new standards with its Beethoven interpretations, thanks to rhythmic precision, driving energy, and remarkable expressive range. Marking the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, this season’s “Quartet” series is dedicated entirely to the ensemble. The concert on 12 October 2026 opens the series. The program begins with the first quartet from the early Op. 18—already revealing Beethoven’s originality—followed by two works from his middle period: the songful Op. 74, nicknamed the “Harp” for its pizzicato writing in the opening movement, and the high-tension String Quartet in C major, Op. 59 No. 3, composed for Count Rasumovsky. This concert forms part of a multi-season Beethoven cycle in which Quatuor Ébène performs all sixteen string quartets. It takes place in the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie Berlin and belongs to the subscription series “Abo T: Quartett.”
