About this event

“Aufgehört” frames a choral-orchestral program shaped by the political turbulence after the French Revolution and during the Napoleonic wars. CAMERATA Salzburg partners with Vox Luminis XL under Lionel Meunier to reflect this upheaval with two landmark sacred works tied to the era. Haydn’s Missa in angustiis (“Nelson Mass”), written in 1798 amid British–French naval conflict and linked to Admiral Nelson’s victory at Aboukir, opens the concert. Mozart’s Requiem, his final and unfinished masterpiece, closes it. Meunier’s luminous, transparent and human-scale approach, as highlighted by Teatro de la Maestranza, de‑monumentalizes the tradition-bound severity of these scores. The expanded Vox Luminis XL choir joins CAMERATA Salzburg for these late‑18th‑century Latin settings. A concert introduction is given 30 minutes before the start of the Sevilla performance.
