CAMERATA Salzburg presents the "Amerika!" program with Spanish violinist Maria Duenas and concertmaster Gregory Ahss, who also assumes musical direction on this tour. Camerata Salzburg is a chamber orchestra based in Salzburg since 1952, specialized in Viennese Classical music and particularly in works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Since 2016 the ensemble has taken artistic direction into its own hands, with the concertmaster leading as "primus inter pares". The "Amerika!" program combines three masterworks spanning Viennese Classicism and early Romanticism: the Overture to Mozart's opera buffa "Le nozze di Figaro" K. 492, Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor op. 64, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D major op. 36. Maria Duenas serves as soloist in the Mendelssohn Concerto; Gregory Ahss leads the orchestra from the concertmaster's desk, taking a dual role as violinist and Musical Director. The tour project extends the orchestra's international concert activities to Latin American stages.
