This staging is a theatrical adaptation of Sibylle Berg’s 1997 debut novel. Director Lukas Leon Krüger shapes a chamber-play evening around the four figures Nora, Vera, Helge, and Tom, who repeatedly merge into a chorus that comments on the action and counters the protagonists’ ego-driven monologues. The device opens new perspectives on their failing quests for love, desire, and freedom. Designer Nora Müller places a long, movable bar at the center of the stage; costumes are by Davide Raiola and lighting by Ronny Bergmann, with dramaturgy by Lena Wontorra. Content warnings include loud music cues, onstage gunshots, strobe lighting, smoke, and text that may be perceived as cynical or harmful, with explicit content relating to sex, self-harm, eating disorders, alcoholism, suicide, and body shaming. This revival brings back the original Mannheim production from 2022.
