Polish-Hungarian pianist Piotr Anderszewski contrasts the intimate late piano pieces of Johannes Brahms with Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental final piano sonata in C minor. The first half comprises short character pieces—Intermezzi, a Capriccio and a Rhapsodie—drawn from Brahms’s opp. 116–119, widely regarded as distilled, inward reflections of his late style. After the interval, the recital culminates in Beethoven’s Sonate op. 111, the two-movement farewell to his piano-sonata oeuvre, ending with the serene Arietta and its visionary set of variations. The concert forms part of Wiener Konzerthaus’s 2026/27 subscription cycle “Klavier im Mozart-Saal.”
