“Noëmi Waysfeld chante Barbara” is a symphonic creation conceived by singer Noëmi Waysfeld and composer-arranger Fabien Cali. It pays tribute to Barbara (Monique Serf, the “midnight singer”) through newly orchestrated versions of her repertoire, avoiding any imitation. At Opéra de Tours, the orchestral version is entrusted to the Orchestre symphonique Région Centre-Val de Loire/Tours conducted by David Jackson, a Franco-British conductor in residence at Opéra de Tours. The symphonic version premiered on 7 November 2024 at La Scala Provence (Avignon) with the Orchestre national Avignon-Provence under Debora Waldman. A trio version (voice, double bass, piano) also tours alongside the orchestral format. The project originated from a 2021 commission by the Festival de Prades to Fabien Cali, following collaborations such as “Cueillir le jour” with Ensemble Orchestral 41. A studio recording has been released since November 2024 on Sony Classical / AWZ Records.
