Sir John Eliot Gardiner presents Once as I remember, a curated Christmas programme for choir and a small period-instrument ensemble. The Christmas story is told through a sequence of spoken readings and music, reimagined from an unusual Dorset nativity play that Gardiner has revisited for this ensemble. The musical fabric blends unaccompanied carols—ranging from well-known to rediscovered tunes from different eras and traditions—with ornate polyphony from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries. Het Concertgebouw presents the concert within its Immortal Notes series. Performed without intermission, the evening runs roughly two hours and twenty minutes with the newly founded Constellation Choir & Orchestra under Gardiner’s direction.
