The Concertgebouw’s Recital Hall (Kleine Zaal) hosts Paris-based Quatuor Arod for a single evening in the 2026/27 season, the first season with American composer Carlos Simon as Composer in Residence. The four-work string quartet program with intermission is part of the venue’s mid-week Strijkkwartetten op woensdag series. The works unfold chronologically: Haydn opens, then Bartók’s Fifth Quartet, followed by Carlos Simon’s Warmth from Other Suns (European premiere), and Fanny Mendelssohn’s E-flat major quartet to close. The players perform on historical Italian instruments and, for Haydn, use bows modeled on 1770s Tourte designs. There is no conductor or staging; the visual focus is the ensemble itself and the hall’s lighting. Tickets are tiered by rank, include a drink, and under-30 sprint tickets are released four hours before the start.
