A flagship Early Music programme in the NTR ZaterdagMatinee pairs two monumental French sacred works from the late Grand Siècle. Christophe Rousset leads his period-instrument ensemble Les Talens Lyriques and the Chœur de Chambre de Namur in Charpentier’s Missa Assumpta est Maria (H. 11, c.1699) and Campra’s Messe de Requiem (c.1720). The concert, performed in the Grote Zaal of Het Concertgebouw, places Charpentier’s Italianate, concertante elegance alongside Campra’s inviting, hopeful Requiem—unusual for omitting the Dies irae. The performance is in concert format with one interval and is preceded at 13:40 by a free pre-concert talk (“In de Spiegel”) by Ben Coelman.
