This is a concert production co-produced by Opéra de Rennes and the Festival de musique sacrée de Saint-Malo, with the Orchestre national de Bretagne and Chœur de chambre Mélisme(s). Its structure places Fauré's Requiem alongside Philippe Hersant's world-premiere setting In Paradiso, creating a two-work program connected by Dante and by the idea of passage from human suffering toward illumination. The concert has a specific Rennes context: Gabriel Fauré moved to Rennes in 1865, aged 20, and became organist at the basilica of Saint-Sauveur. Nicolas Ellis is responsible for the musical direction. The musical concept emphasizes the consoling and intimate character of Fauré's score rather than theatrical spectacle, while Hersant's work opens the program with a perspective toward light and clarity. No stage director, set, costume, lighting, or choreographic credits are listed; the production is therefore presented as a concert rather than a staged opera.
