About this event

Launched by Müpa Budapest for 2026, the Solti International Conducting Competition revives the legacy of the historic Hungarian Television International Conducting Competition (1974). Named for Budapest-born Sir Georg Solti (1912–1997), the competition aims to discover conductors who are outstanding musicians and future leaders of major orchestras. Roughly 400 applications from 61 countries were received, with 24 admitted to the public rounds held across three premier Hungarian halls: the Kodály Centre in Pécs (1–4 Oct), the Liszt Academy Grand Hall (5–6 Oct), and the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall at Müpa Budapest (Final, 9 Oct). Each round features a different orchestra; the Final is with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. The event is broadcast by MTVA on Bartók Radio and M5, with short films and interviews.
