The Zoltán Kocsis Memorial Concert on 6 November 2026 marks the tenth anniversary of the death of the Hungarian National Philharmonic’s former general music director. To honour Kocsis, the programme pairs Brahms’s rarely heard Begräbnisgesang, Op. 13, with Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45. The concert is given in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall at Müpa Budapest, conducted by György Vashegyi with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hungarian National Choir, featuring soprano Polina Pasztircsák and baritone Julian Orlishausen. The choir is prepared by chorus master Csaba Somos. The evening frames the Requiem with the austere, Protestant-chorale character of the Begräbnisgesang, underscoring consolation and remembrance for an artist central to Hungary’s musical life.
