About this event

This revival is based on Chris Alexander’s staging, part of Staatsoper Hannover’s repertoire since 1999, newly rehearsed under the revival direction of Valérie Junker. The production takes a poetic view of the work, sensitively tracing the tension between a desire for independence and the characters’ material and emotional dependencies. Chris Alexander, an American director and translator, has created over 60 productions in Germany and Switzerland and has worked at renowned institutions such as the Kennedy Center and Welsh National Opera. The visual world is shaped by Kathrin Kegler (sets), Marie-Therese Cramer (costumes), and Claus Ackenhausen (lighting). Musical direction is by Tobias Wögerer. The chorus preparation is by Lorenzo Da Rio, the children’s chorus preparation by Tatiana Bergh, and dramaturgy by Ann-Christine Mecke. The performance is sung in Italian with German and English surtitles. A 45-minute introduction is offered before every performance.
