About this event

This staging at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz marks Christiane Lutz's first directorial work at the house. Musical direction is by Michael Brandstätter (First Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director). Set by Christian Tabakoff, costumes by Dorothee Joisten, choreography by Ricarda Regina Ludigkeit, lighting by Peter Hörtner, video design by Meike Ebert and Christian Gasteiger, dramaturgy by Karin Bohnert. The press release for the 2026/2027 season positions the staging as a turbulent operetta reactivating the work's legacy for the Gärtnerplatztheater stage. The production design links traditional Viennese operetta conventions with a notable use of video-based scenography (Ebert/Gasteiger). Choreography by Ludigkeit includes dance ensembles integrated into the swindlers' comedic setting. The vocal direction aims at idiomatic Viennese operetta singing with lively ensembles.
